SRF Restoration Webinar Series

SRF will be launching an online webinar series to highlight 2020 Conference themes that will be explored when it is feasible to produce the Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference. These short webinars will be the fourth Fridays of each month at noon.

Fish passage engineer Michael Love will begin the series with an overview of Part XII of the CDFW Salmonid Stream Habitat Restoration Manual, summarizing contemporary design approaches and implementation techniques for providing fish passage at existing and replacement stream crossings and other in-stream structures. It will cover the stream simulation approach, culvert retrofits, and grade control techniques that include boulder and log weirs, geomorphically-based roughened channels, and pool-and-chute fishways. The presentation will use project examples to illustrate the different approaches, while focusing on lessons learned.

2020 Annual SRF Conference Postponed

The 38th Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference was canceled due to COVID-19. SRF is tentatively holding the dates October 27-30, 2020 in Santa Cruz. If it is not feasible to produce the conference in the fall, we will reschedule for Spring 2021 or as soon as it is prudent to do so.

The digital version of the 2020 SRF Conference Proceedings is available online. If you would like to continue your virtual conference experience, please check out our Vimeo page for recorded keynote talks from previous SRF conferences. Please visit our website for future updates on the conference and other SRF events.

2020 Spring-run Chinook Symposium
July 23-24 (Tentative Dates)

Salmonid Restoration Federation and the Salmon River Restoration Council are exploring our options on how best to offer the 10th Spring-run Chinook Symposium this summer. The symposium would feature Spring-run status reports, genetic findings, and restoration strategies to conserve remnant Spring- run Chinook populations. If we are able to offer this event as planned, field tours would include Salmon River restoration projects and Scott River beaver dam analogue projects. If public health guidelines do not allow an in-person event, we are also considering an online webinar format. Please stay-tuned.

2020 Coho Confab on the South Fork Eel River

The 23rd Annual Coho Confab is currently scheduled for September 11-13 in Leggett, CA. This Confab will showcase exemplary restoration projects on the South Fork of the Eel River including restoration forestry projects in the Sinkyone Wilderness, Hollow Creek Tree LWD projects, and planning projects in Cedar Creek.

The Confab will also have a focus on the SHaRP Planning in the South Fork Eel River. SRF will post the Confab agenda and open registration in May. If the COVID-19 spread is not contained by summer, SRF will need to postpone this event.

WSP Now Accepting Applications for Year 27

Join a team of individuals committed to watershed protection, community outreach and education, and restoration projects throughout California! Applications for Year 27 of the Watershed Stewards Program are due June 26th, 2020.

Fishery Biologist Position Open

The US Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco District is advertising a Career Ladder Fishery Biologist position at Lake Sonoma/Warm Springs Dam in Geyserville, CA. Applications are due May 15 for the public application and the merit application.

Global Swimways Webinar Marathon

This 24-hour webinar marathon is being held in honor of World Fish Migration Day. The webinar includes presentations from over 50 local, national and global experts.

NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant Request

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced $15 million to support innovative conservation approaches on agricultural lands. USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is accepting proposals through June 29, 2020, for national Conservation Innovation Grants (CIG). An informational webinar for applicants will be held on May 13 at 3pm EST.

National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program

The Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Fiscal Year 2021 round of the National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grant Program has been published. The period for States to apply is open through June 26, 2020. The NOFO, along with the full application package, is available here.

Redwood Creek Low-Flow Monitoring

SRF has been conducting low flow monitoring in Redwood Creek in the South Fork Eel watershed since 2013. Check out our website to see project resources, the low flow trajectory, and regular updates about this project. A flipbook series of site photos is also available for viewing.

Support NGOs During COVID-19

The CARES Act allows for households to take up to a $300 tax deduction for donations to nonprofits even if they are not itemizing in the 2020 tax year. Please consider donating to SRF or any of your favorite non-profits during this difficult time.
