Final Call for 2024 SRF Presentation Abstracts

The 41st Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference will be held in Santa Rosa, California from March 26-29, 2024. Please visit our website to see the Final Call for Presentation Abstracts. Please note that the agenda evolves and the Final Call for Abstracts may include additional concurrent sessions and an additional workshop. Session, workshop, and tour descriptions are posted. Early abstract submission helps SRF determine which sessions and workshops will be in the final agenda. SRF’s Call for Abstracts is highly competitive and not all abstracts can be accepted. Presentations that have not been given before at our conference will have priority. To submit an abstract, please review our submission guidelines. Please fill out this form, then email your abstract to abstracts@calsalmon.org. Receipt of your submission will be acknowledged by email and forwarded to the correct session chair.

SRF is going big for the 41st Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference to ensure that the conference does not sell out early next year like we did in 2023. SRF will be hosting the conference at the beautiful Hyatt Wine Country Sonoma in downtown Santa Rosa and we have set up great hotel blocks. Hotel rooms will sell out before the conference registration does so please make your hotel reservations early if you plan on registering for the conference. Conference registration will probably not open until early December but you can reserve your hotel rooms now. Featured Workshop: Nature-Like Fishways: Modern Perspectives and Techniques
Workshop Coordinators: Tyler Kreider, PE, American Fisheries Society, Mike Garello, PE, HDR, Inc.; Mike Love, PE, Michael Love & Associates
 

The goal of the workshop is to share knowledge of nature-like fishway design and long-term stability observations among practitioners, regulators, and operators to improve the collective awareness of contemporary NLF science and design methodologies to ultimately provide more effective and sustainable passage for fish. This workshop includes the following topics: Background on and history of nature-like fishways, Application of NLFs to natural and built environments; Site reconnaissance, project assessment, and project development; Identifying data and modeling needs and necessary in-field data collection; Example design methods, practices, constraints; Construction methods and oversight, and more.

Project partners developed and implemented the Garcia Estuary Habitat Enhancement Project to address the need for high quality habitat and to increase the watershed’s winter carrying capacity for coho salmon, Participants will have an opportunity to catch a bird’s eye view of the entire project from atop the bluffs on the south side of the estuary, before hiking down to see some of the project features up close. We’ll discuss planning, design, permitting, construction methods, monitoring, lessons learned, and everything in-between. View full tour description here.

2024 SRF Conference - Poster Session Now Open
 

The Poster Session will be 7-10 pm on Thursday, March 28 at the conference venue. This annual event is open to all conference attendees and is a great venue to network with your peers. Marshall Ranch Flow Augmentation Project Status Report

Salmonid Restoration Federation, Stillwater Sciences and Edwards Excavation along with contributing subcontractors have been busy all summer building an innovative flow augmentation project on the historic Marshall Ranch to improve instream flows for threatened salmon and other aquatic species. 10-million gallons of water storage will be fully dedicated to supplementing instream flows in Redwood Creek, South Fork Eel. This project has been years in the planning and will likely improve Redwood Creek habitat conditions for decades to come. Special thanks to our funders: Wildlife Conservation Board's Streamflow Enhancement Program and the State Coastal Conservancy. Check out this flipbook to see photos from this construction season.
