Southern California Steelhead Monitoring and Research

19 March 2014

Workshop Coordinator:
Dana McCanne, California Department of Fish and Wildlife

Workshop Overview

The Southern California Steelhead Monitoring and Research Workshop was designed to give attendees an overview of the California Coastal Salmonid Monitor Program (CMP), a statewide program, implementation for the Southern California Steelhead Distinct Population Segment. The workshop started with current monitoring projects that predate CMP implementation on the South Coast. Next, current CMP efforts, including the utilization of DIDSON technology, and future CMP plans were covered. Research needs for the CMP were presented as well as the genetics of Southern California steelhead. There was a presentation on GIS tools that the CMP utilizes to model fish distribution, develop sampling frames, and project support. Finally, the database that all CMP projects will use was introduced, including how to get data in and out of the database as well as the open-source tools that will be made available to do the many of the analyses projects will need.
