Watershed Day at the Capitol, a Legislative Tour
Field Tour Coordinator:
Michael Welborn, California Watershed Network
The Legislative Tour will focus on building exposure and outreach opportunities with legislators and officials including a representative of the State Water Resources Control Board and a state senator, followed by visits to the Capitol with key legislators and/or their staff members. This tour is intended to be an opportunity for learning the processes and pitfalls of work in the Capitol as well as conveying information about our community projects to legislators, their staff and administration officials.
The field tour will commence with a morning meeting at Cal-EPA. State Water Board Member Steve Moore (confirmed) will discuss current regulatory challenges and opportunites facing restoration groups; and State Senator Hannah Beth-Jackson (invited) will provide an review of relevent legislative actions. The morning will conclude with a round-up of issues for community restorationists from A.L. Riley and Vern Goehring.
After lunch, the tour participants will visit the Capitol building and break up into groups to meet with key legislators and/or their staff members. There will be escorted visits primarily for those that have not visited the capitol previously, while those with some capitol experience will be able to proceed on their own schedules and priorities. It is recommended that all participants bring photos and descriptions of their local project sites to leave with each legislator/staff member as a momento of their visits.
The field tour will culminate at the Governor's office lobby for photo ops with the bronze bear before returning to the vans and the ride back to Davis.
