2025 Conference Plenary Session Announced & Agenda Packet Now Posted

The 42nd Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference will be held in Santa Cruz, California from April 29 - May 2, 2025. Conference registration is open and the Plenary Sessionworkshopfield tour, and concurrent session descriptions are posted online.

SRF Conference Wednesday Night Social

Please join SRF and cohorts for a fun film screening and book signing event on Wednesday, April 30th, 2025 at the Resource Center for Non-Violence.  This event will include short sizzles of the Klamath Dam Removal film by filmmaker Shane Anderson, a book reading and signing with author and advocate, Jeff Miller, and some salmon-related Wild and Scenic shorts TBA.

SRF Conference Scholarships Available
Applications due February 14, 2025

SRF is thrilled that the Israel Family Fund is making a multi-year contribution to SRF's Conference scholarship fund. The SRF Conference in Santa Cruz will cost considerably more than other conferences. 

To apply for a Conference scholarship, please fill out this form by February 14, 2025.

SRF Conference Featured Workshop: The Passionate Fact-Telling Restoration as Story

Telling Restoration as Story participants will learn how to share their restoration stories in a compelling way. Group  and partnered activities will provide participants with an experience of how the story does its work and apply essential elements for creating compelling communications in their public presentations.  Learn more here.

SRF Conference Featured Tour: Monterey Peninsula Sleepy Hollow Steelhead Rearing Facility

Tour the Sleepy Hollow Steelhead Rearing Facility, where up to 40,000 steelhead rescued from drying sections of the Carmel River can be reared until it rains and the Carmel River runs again. While you will not see any fish in the facility at this time, you will see the complete rearing facility including the 800 ft long artificial rearing channel, tanks, filtration methods, water conditioning methods, pumps and screens. We will also talk about rearing methods and adaptive techniques utilized over the many years. Learn more here.

2025 SRF Conference - Call for Award Nominations
Due March 10, 2025

Please submit 200 words or more to nominate candidates for the illustrious Restorationist of the Year Award, the Golden Pipe Award for Innovation, the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Gordon Becker Memorial River Advocate Award. Please find descriptions of the awards here. These awards will be presented at the 2025 Salmonid Restoration Conference Banquet. Nominations should be sent to lindsay@calsalmon.org by March 10, 2025. Please write "Award Nominations" in the subject line.

SRF Tribal Capacity and Climate Resilience Project Seeking Steering and TAC Members 

SRF and California Indian Environmental Alliance (CIEA) are thrilled to announce that the California North Coast Tribal Capacity and Climate Resilience Project has been awarded through the NOAA Fisheries Office of Habitat Conservation Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. This three-year project will provide capacity building tools and climate resilience planning for North Coast tribes. 

We are currently seeking to create a Tribal Steering Committee and a Technical Advisory Committee in support of this project. Please see the interest form for more information about this project and to submit your contact information.

Rose Foundation Grants

The Rose Foundation supports grassroots initiatives that help build a world in which communities are empowered to promote stewardship of nature. The California Wildlands Grassroots Grant is due February 15 and the California Watershed Protection grant application is due February 24.

2025 Water Board Order for Small Habitat Restoration Projects Update Survey
Due February 21, 2025 
 
The State and Regional Water Boards are currently in the process of updating the Order for Small Habitat Restoration Projects. Sustainable Conservation is conducting a survey in coordination with State Board staff to help inform potential changes to the Order.

UC Berkeley Riverlab Geomorphic & Ecological Fundamentals of River & Stream Restoration
Aug 18-22, 2025 
 
The short course is based at Sagehen Creek Field Station, which combines a beautiful natural setting with excellent research facilities, such as an outdoor classroom, a stream table to demonstrate channel adjustments, an on-site laboratory, and Sagehen Creek, with its rich history of research in fluvial geomorphology and ecology.
