SRF Arts Alive in Eureka

Salmonid Restoration Federation will host Arts Alive on Saturday, October 7 at our office in Old Town Eureka right by the gazebo. This Arts Alive will feature Thomas Dunklin’s new panorama and aerial photography of Humboldt Bay as well as current underwater video footage of salmon and steelhead. Please join us for wine, appetizers, and lively conversation from 6-9pm this Saturday.

2018 Salmonid Restoration Conference Penultimate Call For Abstracts 

Presenter abstracts are due November 7, 2017. 

The 36th Annual Salmonid Restoration Conference will be April 11-14, 2018 at the Fortuna River Lodge. Please visit our website to see the Penultimate Call for Abstracts and tentative conference agenda

Potential Field Tours include: 15 Years of Salmonid Habitat Restoration in Lower Klamath Tributaries; Lower Eel River Restoration, Flood Reduction, and Habitat Connectivity Tour; Instream, Off-Channel, and Upslope Erosion Reduction Restoration Projects in Humboldt Bay; Large Wood Augmentation on Small Low-Risk Streams; Mattole Headwaters Instream and Groundwater Recharge Projects; and Restoring Tidal Wetlands: Inclusive, Process-based Restoration in Working Landscapes.

Potential Workshops include: Devising Regionally Protective Instream Flow Criteria for Unregulated Coastal California Streams; Effectiveness Monitoring of Instream Restoration Projects in California; Identifying Appropriate Site-Specific Methods and Target Criteria for Instream Large Wood Restoration Efforts in California; Using an Optimization Model to Select Fish Passage Barriers for Remediation; and Speaking of Science and Facilitating Community Engagement.

To submit an abstract, please fill out this form, then email your abstract to abstracts@calsalmon.org. Please review our submission guidelines. Receipt of your submission will be acknowledged by email and forwarded to the correct session chair.


20th Annual Coho Confab Presentations Now Online

The 20th Annual Coho Confab in the scenic Mattole River valley in Humboldt County was a huge success. Keynote presentations and a tour handout are now available online. SRF coordinated this event in cooperation with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Mattole Restoration Council, Mattole Salmon Group, and Sanctuary Forest. Topics included prospects and steps for recovery and restoration of coho salmon, beaver structures applied to salmon restoration, and groundwater recharge using log structures.


Coastal Conservancy Prop 1 Solicitation 

These Prop 1 grants fund multi-benefit ecosystem and watershed protection and restoration projects. The grant application has two parts: a cover sheetand a project description. The grant solicitation closes on October 31.


Fish Passage Forum Funding Opportunity

The California Fish Passage Forum is seeking proposals to restore the connectivity of freshwater anadromous fish habitats. A total of $100,000 to $150,000 will be awarded. The deadline for submissions is November 15.


2017 State of Salmonids Report Online  

After nearly 16 months of work, the full 2017 State of the Salmonids report has been finalized and is available on California Trout's website. This is a useful resource for information about the status and trends of California's diverse native salmonids as well as a reference library.


SRF is Hiring a Project Coordinator

SRF is hiring a Project Coordinator to help manage projects, fundraise, and coordinate specific educational efforts. Must have demonstrably strong writing, research, and policy analysis skills. A detailed job announcement is available online. Please submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to srf@calsalmon.org by November 1, 2017.
